Hailing originally from Abilene, TX, Homer Hiccolm and the Rocketboys incorporate musical influences from each band member’s geographic origins. Flavors of Memphis, Atlanta and Dallas mix to create an ambient style of rock that can help the blind to see, the deaf to hear and the lame to walk (metaphorically speaking, of course). If you’re lucky enough to see them at ACL Fest, you still won’t meet Homer Hiccolm — there’s no one by that name in the band.

Nelo (rhymes with "hello"), hopes to bring original pop-rock and powerful condensed jams to the ears of ACL fans. Texas-Ex Matt Ragland has drawn musician friends from high school together to form this Austin-based band. After a year-stint in Athens, GA, they’ve come back to where it all began. A debut album is slated for release from Pedernales Records in February 2008.

Quiet Company

Quiet Company is an energetic, piano-infused indie band from Austin. Their debut album, Shine Honesty, was released to rave reviews in 2006. Singer Taylor Muse’s emotional intensity and the band’s dramatic orchestrations combine to create a harmonious sound with infectious energy. A love for the music shines through each chord and lyric this trio delivers — and maybe you’ll see it for yourself at ACL Fest.

Blue Flashing Light

The band Blue Flashing Light has just released a debut album, ShadowBoxing, and is taking their “Proper Rock Show” on the road, beginning in Athens, GA. The band’s name is taken from the song by the U.K.’s Travis: “Somewhere in the distance … just beyond the setting sun, if you tune in and look closely … you can catch a glimpse of the blue flashing light on the horizon.” The band hopes to give ACL Fest crowds a glimpse this September.

Golden Bear

The Austin-based band Golden Bear hopes to bring their brand of guitar-driven, anthemic pop to ACL Fest this year. Their style recalls such legends as The Flaming Lips, My Morning Jacket and Arcade Fire, with an energy and exuberance that has earned them a reputation as a force to be reckoned with. A new album, To the Farthest Star, is currently available.
