Meet Mike Ming, our resident artist. He'll be on tour with us, hanging in the Dell Summer Rocks Dome all summer long. Swing by to check out his killer style.
Mike Ming's art style defies definition and is difficult to place in a specific genre.
We can be certain that his urban raised background influences his art. His interests lie in comic books, video games, animations, cartoons, music and a general absorbing of things popular and immediate in his environment. It was not until skateboarding entered his life in early 1984 that his current point of view began to take shape.
In 2008, Mike is still as deliberately unorthodox about his sense of visual identity as related to art, but now there is a
deliberate intention of creating art that can somehow convey the exciting, wonderful world of movement and abstract momentary communication.
Mike intends for his art to be received as a part of the natural order and flow of life, as if it were always there.
In designing for Dell, Ming continues his style of randomness that connects one part of a sentence to the other. His hope is to communicate his visual world and empower people with the "Do it Yourself" attitude, giving them the confidence to take their own creative license.
Working with Dell
"I wanted to create a sense of energy, playfulness, sophistication and psychedelic momentum seriousness for Dell. It was my response to the super-secret printing technique they developed over there. It sounds as close to a tattoo any computer can get, and any computer aficionado can bring to their game a hardcore attitude to prove them and identify with their machines. I wanted to visually inspire them to make it theirs! The designs are all based on the ocean and water, real and imaginary. The energy they produce and the energy people conduct from them. Water is a very powerful medium and in honor of the life force on earth, I created these images using water and representing water."
